Founded in 1860, and the site of this year’s U.S. Open Golf Championship, The Olympic Club is the oldest and one of the most accomplished athletic clubs in the United States. For the Club’s four-acre Lakeside Facility, SMITH & SMITH provided conceptual site masterplanning and on-site landscape architectural design services. A design charette was held with Club member to ensure that the historical integrity of the Club was included in the overall masterplan and site design. Project challenges included determining essential tennis facility layout options, circulation, site programming, and the development of objectives for the ultimate best use of the facility.
