The Department of Veteran Affairs’ proposed 100-acre Alameda Point campus includes an outpatient clinic and 300,000 columbaria. Situated on a decommissioned U.S. Navy airfield on San Francisco Bay the project responds to its site’s challenging constraints including poor soil, seasonal wetlands, rising sea levels and the presence of a colony of endangered shorebirds nearby.
